Description:
Twenty-seven
year old Carrie Thompson-Sherman has the life she always wanted: her PhD, a
prestigious fellowship, and an amazing husband.
Her life begins to unravel as a jealous colleague puts her fellowship in
jeopardy and a haunting secret Ray Sherman carried home from Afghanistan comes
to light.
Hounded by a federal investigation and the ensuing media feeding frenzy, Carrie
and Ray desperately lean on each other, until a disastrous accident puts both
Ray and her sister's lives at risk.
In the last hour, Carrie and Ray will each find themselves faced with a choice.
A choice that will change everything.
Author’s Favorite Quotes from The Last Hour
Part 1
By Charles Sheehan-Miles
She shook her head. “I wanna watch.”
During one of the early chapters, we get
a glimpse of Carrie as a teenager watching out for her younger sisters,
Alexandra and the twins, Jessica and Sarah.
Sarah gets hurt, falling on a broken bottle on the sidewalk and gets a
chunk of glass stuck in her hand. When
Carrie removes the glass, she tells Sarah to look away, but Sarah’s a bold,
curious person, and she insists on watching.
I loved this scene, and that particular line, because it tells us a lot
about Sarah and the relationship between the twins.
Life is cheap, Sarah. So maybe it’s over. We had our
chance.
At one point in the story Ray and Sarah
are arguing, and Ray yells at her that life is cheap. Ray’s got some major
baggage from the war that runs through the entire story. I like this line because it’s the opposite of
what he demonstrates: Ray’s a hero, who makes the choices to preserve life and
show just how valuable life and love is, even when it costs him everything.
He
broke off and spoke, his voice low, husky. “Is this going too fast for you?”
I met his eyes. “It’s not going fast enough.”
Ray and Carrie are a couple I admire.
They’re faced with incredible obstacles, but they stand beside each other, the
strengthen each other, their love helps build each other up instead of tearing
each other down. I loved this particular
quote because I thought it captured some of the intense attraction between
these two people who I grew to love while I was writing the story.
