Mother's Day With Author S.Moose
The Passage below is an exclusive piece written for Scandalous In Honor of Mother's Day by my dear friend S.Moose. When I asked her to write me a piece I just assumed she would write about Sophie and Adam & Erin and Conner (The Main characters from her Never Letting Go Series) However when I started reading when she sent me my jaw hit the floor. Saoching Moose went above any beyond my wildest dreams and created a small story that had me crying then celebrating with tears of joy. It took me through quite a few different emotions for such a short piece. I guess that goes to show just how talented S.Moose truly is.
I hope you all enjoy it as much as |I have.
Happy Mother’s Day
Emily
Looking at myself in the mirror, I take a deep breath and slowly count to one hundred. My body is shaking and I can’t seem to calm down. I pace our bedroom back and forth trying to find some reason and solid ground.
Nathan and I are heading home after being away for a little over a year. With his job at Optimax and the traveling it’s been hard to go back and visit. I miss my family and can’t wait to spend some quality time with them. Living in California, away from everyone, is hard and I hate it. I hope that with the news Nathan will want to move back home.
I hold the little box in my hand and sit down on my bed. My heart races and my breathing quickens. Do you know what it’s like holding something life changing in your hands? The sweat from my forehead slowly runs down my face. I can’t believe this is happening.
A wide smile spreads on my face as I look down and think about our future. After everything we’ve been through this is our time. The countless hours traveling and going to meetings has put a strain on our marriage. I’m not saying we’re headed towards divorce, but we’re not on the same level. After seeing my parents and their love, I know I have to put trust in both of us. I know Nathan loves me and will move the oceans to be with me, but now I need more.
Getting my things together I call Matthew, our driver, and get ready to head home.
Nathan
“Sir, we’re getting ready to land.” I nod and finish my report before sending it to my dad.
My position at Optimax is great and I’ve been learning a lot since I started. Connor and dad taught me almost everything about the company. I’m head of the California office and it’s been an honor, but the pressure of making sure the company is doing well and being there for Emily is hard. We see each other in the office as she’s the head of the advertising side of Optimax, but it’s not the same.
She’s been distant lately and I can’t figure it out. The endless hours in the office isn’t helping. I know she’s trying to keep things between us perfect and I’m grateful, but I can’t shake off the underlying issue facing us.
We used to be in love and spent every waking moment together. We grew up next door to one another and I always watched over her. She was my best friend and I fell in love with her. I loved her smile and love of life. She made me whole. She was my missing puzzle. Do you know what it’s like to wake up next to your forever? That feeling never went away-it was hiding.
We’ve been together for over twelve years and every day I love her more. There’s nothing I wouldn’t do for her. Our love is strong and has survived the shittest of times. From the scandal that nearly cost me my position at Optimax to the attempted kidnapping of Emily, I can safely say nothing can get in the way of our love. Leaning against the chair I think back on what’s been going on between us.
We’re heading back home to visit and spend time with our families. Tomorrow’s mother’s day and I know she’s excited to spend time with both our moms. It’s time to go home and relax. I need this getaway from the office and being an adult. I want this time to be with my wife and show her how much I love her.
It’s funny how life works. I look at my parents, Adam and Sophia, and my in laws, Erin and Connor. The love in their eyes makes me believe Emily and I are forever, at least I hope so.
Our lives were never easy. We were told we couldn’t have kids and Emily took it to heart. She was depressed and I was scared I’d lose her. Erin and Sophia came to visit us and it helped, but the sadness took over. She blamed herself and wanted a divorce. There was no way I’d ever let her go, no matter what.
Emily
“Mom? Dad?” I place my suitcase down in the foyer and head to the kitchen.
“Em?” Dad comes out of his study, taking off his glasses. “Oh Princess,” he smiles bringing me in his arms.
My parents were the best. It’s always been the three of us. They gave me the best life and supported me through everything. The day I found out I couldn’t have kids I cried and felt my heart breaking. Mom and Aunt Sophia came to visit. We spent a lot of time together and it was hard, but I knew everything happened for a reason. I wasn’t sure about adoption. Honestly I wasn’t ready to think about that.
“It’s so good to see you daddy.”
“You too.” He leads me to the kitchen and wakes up my mom.
“Emily?” She smiles, bringing me in for a hug. “I’m so glad you’re home baby.”
“Me too, mom.”
We spend the next few hours talking and catching up. Dad and I talk about Optimax, but mom quickly shuts us down. She hates when we talk business. Family time means no talks about business or anything unrelated to family.
“Emily what’s going on?”
I look down and put down my bottle of water. Leaning my head on the headrest of the couch, I close my eyes and hold back the tears. “Mom, I don’t know what’s going on. Nathan and I,” I start to say, “We’re on different pages. We’re always working and we hardly see each other.”
“Oh baby,” she squeezes my hand. “You know when me and your dad first got together he was always working too. I was pregnant you know,” she wipes the tear from her eye.
Hearing her talk about being pregnant before me breaks my heart.
My parents were pregnant, but then evil stepped in and changed their lives. They were going to have a girl. It was hard hearing how depressed and broken my parents were, but their love kept them strong.
“I know mom.” I shake my head, rubbing my eyes. “I don’t wanna leave him, but I miss how it used to be. He used to hold my hand and make me feel special.” I smile thinking about all our precious moments. “I want us to be in love again.”
“Sweetie listen to me. Nathan loves you. He’s been in love with you since you were born.” I laugh, nodding my head and agreeing with her. “Your love will last. Don’t ever lose hope. You remember what me and your dad went through and the same with Sophia and Adam. Baby, let our pasts show you the power of love. When I talk to Sophia, oh,” my mom holds her heart, “Baby Nathan loves you. He talks about you all the time to her. Trust me okay?”
I nod. “Thanks mom.”
“Anytime baby.”
I head upstairs to my room and pull out my phone. I miss Nathan and wonder what he’s doing.
Me: Hi babe
Love of my life: Baby I miss you. I’m still on the plane. Worst fucking ride ever
Me: I’m sorry! Everything okay?
Love of my life: Now it is =) I can’t wait to see you soon. Damn baby…It’s been so long and I miss you
I smile reading the message. This is what I miss.
Me: I know I miss you too. I want us to be okay, Nathan
Love of my life: Me too…Don’t close me off okay? I’ll always be here for you and I want you to know how much I love you. I promise you that things are going to be better…Just don’t lose faith in me or us
Me: I promise I’ll try…I love you Nathan…So much
Love of my life: Forever baby
Nathan
After the worst plane ride I’m finally home. Everyone’s at my parent’s house celebrating mother’s day. I hold their gifts in my hands as I walk inside through the house and head out to the deck.
“Happy mother’s day,” I smile looking at everyone.
My mom jumps up from her chair and runs over to me. “Baby, you’re home,” she cries.
“Hi mom,” I kiss the side of her head, “I love you.”
“Oh Nathan, I love you too.”
We settle down around the table and I catch my girl looking at me with a smile on her face. Damn I miss that look. It’s been so long since we’ve had a good time together. Usually she’s up all day and night, hardly sleeping and keeping herself busy.
“Hey beautiful,” I gently kiss her lips. “I miss you.”
“I miss you too,” she squeezes my hand, resting her head on my shoulder.
Both our dads, Connor and Adam, man the grill as the girls talk and I sit back and listen. I see Emily fiddling in her seat and I can’t help but wonder what’s going on.
We finish brunch and relax around the pool. Mom and Erin love their spa day gifts and bottles of wine. It’s great being back home and seeing the light back in her eyes.
Emily
This is it. I’m ready to tell everyone the news. My nerves are shot and my body is shaking. I can’t believe this is happening. I place my hand on my stomach, take a deep breath and stand up.
“Everyone I have an announcement.” All eyes are on me. Oh shit I didn’t think this through. Taking one final deep breath I quickly pull the box from my purse and hand it to Nathan. “Open it.”
He looks at me with question in his eyes, “Alright.” Slowly opening the gift I have to count to one hundred before I lose my mind. Nathan takes off the top, removes the tissue paper and stares at the test. “We’re pregnant?”
I nod my head. “We’re pregnant.”
Nathan jumps to his feet, lifts me in his arms and laughs holding me tight. Everyone is wishing us congratulations and my mom and Aunt Sophia start crying. This is one of the best days of my life and I get to share it with the people who mean the most to me.
Nathan puts me down and kneels in front of my stomach. He kisses my belly and holds me close. “My family,” he whispers. “Happy mother’s day.”
I smile. All my dreams are finally coming true. I have the man I love and our baby on the way. What more can I ask for?
