Enter the Night Book Description:
In Comes the Night, Alex Robbins, Brooke Saunders and Maryanne Hemlock, three troubled seniors at Streep Academy, learned to escape their pain — escape their very bodies — by casting a dark piece of themselves out through the stained glass window high in the attic of their dorm, Harvell House.
Casting has been the salvation of each of the girls, but particularly for Maryanne. The wholesome good girl of the trio, Maryanne nevertheless harbors a secret — and a darkness — unrivaled by tattooed scenester Alex or beautiful badass Brooke. Casting provides Maryanne a desperately needed reprieve from her guilt and pain, but it’s become like a drug. And as with any drug, it only masks the real problems … and brings dangers of its own.
When Maryanne starts dating Bryce Walker, son of the notorious “Heller” hunter Ira Walker, is it first love, or is there a darker, more self-destructive impulse at play? As the superstitious citizens of Mansbridge begin to mutter and scan the night skies for Hellers, can the hunted lie down with the hunter and emerge unscathed?

ENTER THE NIGHT AUTHOR'S FAV QUOTES
It was so much better out here! No, she was better. Free and brave and strong. Maryanne the mouse was left behind. And the pain, the grief…it was still there, but it was away somehow.
AUTHORS: This escape, this sensation of leaving your pain and troubles behind, is at the heart of casting. It’s how Connie Harvell forged that portal in the first place with her desperate need to escape her confinement and torture the only way she knew how – by getting out of her body. And casting continues to give relief from the pain and loneliness for our three girls.
“Well, you know what they say. Nothing like a good old-fashioned coma to catch you up on your beauty sleep.”
AUTHORS: Alex is responding here to a compliment from Dani Mann, making light of a very serious situation. We wanted to show there are some very funny lines and funny situations to break the tension in these book. It really isn’t all unrelenting pain and angst!
Brooke looked from Maryanne’s glowing face to Bryce’s. It hit her out of nowhere, like a kick in the chest. Standing there like that with that look on his face that said you’re just the person I needed to see right now; he looked so much like his brother. Like Seth used to look when he still cared about her. Suddenly, her throat ached.
AUTHORS: This is a favorite passage, because it illuminates not just Bryce’s genuine attraction and growing love for Maryanne, but also highlights Brooke’s loss, grief and loneliness.
“You can’t roll back time, no matter how desperately you want to. You can’t undo some things. They haunt us…the things we can’t undo. Those moments in our past we’d give our very own lives to take back.”
AUTHORS: This is part of a short speech by Maryanne, who well knows the truth of it.
