EXCERPT
"First, can you check the glove box and see what’s in
there?" Xander asked, interrupting my thoughts.
I actually jumped back a little when I popped the glovebox
open, which caused Xander to snicker at me. "What did you think was
going to jump out at you?"
"These days I have no idea," I retorted, as I pulled
out the single envelope that lay in the glove box. It was sealed and
thin, and couldn’t have held more than a sheet of paper, as light as it
felt.
"Looking for this?" I questioned, and I
held it up for him to see.
"Yeah, I think so." His voice wavered and I
found myself studying his profile; trying to get an idea for what was going on
in his head.
"Open it up."
"Really?" I asked, with trepidation dripping in
my voice. "You're actually going to let me in?"
His hand ran through his hair - I loved that - and he sighed.
"Skye, I've kept you out of the loop for as long as I have so that I could
keep you safe, not because I wanted to. We’re in this together now."
My heart leapt. He was right…we were in this,
whatever it was, together. I tore open the envelope and pulled out a
single sheet of paper with a name and number. That was it? I
flipped it over. Nothing.
"This is it. The name ‘Selene’ and a
number," I said softly.
I guess I’d expected something more profound.
"That's it," confirmed Xander. "After
we jump on the interstate we can pick up a phone, and then we’ll call
her."
"Okay. Who is she?"
Xander cleared his throat before he spoke, but kept his
eyes on the road.
"I don't know, actually."
"You don't know?
Do you even know where we’re going?"
"Nope."
The urge to jerk the door open and throw myself out of the
moving vehicle was overwhelming.
"Time to tell me the plan, Xander. I need to
know now."
"I know. I told you I would fill you in, but I
just wanted to be sure the number was in the glove box. You know at the
diner, when you questioned how I was supposed to keep you safe for the rest of
your life?"
I nodded in acknowledgment and he continued on.
"It upset me, because I realized that you didn’t ‘get the picture’
yet..."
"What picture?"
"The one where you will never be safe Skye. Not here.
Hell - maybe not even in Tyalbrook."
A million curses and questions hurtled over each other in a
rush to make their way out of my mouth, but all I actually said was,
"Why?"
My Review
Oh my God I got so excited, when I read Xander is a guardian. The first two pages created a hunger that needed to be fed, to say I devoured this book is an understatement.
Xander stole my heart immediately how could he not with his sweet loving caring ways.
"I could stop it; I couldn't stop loving her loving her and I was in serious trouble"
I really cannot put into word just how much this book and the characters excited me. this is a fantasy that was done perfectly.
Skye Skye Skye I love this girl she is one tough cookie she has being through so much pain a suffering in her young life. She had her crazy broken life flipped on its head when she learns her true identity.
"I know I had to trust him My brain and my heart was telling me there was something special about Xander"
Her Guardian Xander steps in when her she tries to drown her sorrows with alcohol; initiating the a world of adventure and the sweetest/heartfelt forbidden love story I have ever read.
"God Skye, I've been in love with you my whole life. I've known you my whole life. My life is yours. I belong to you. I always will"
My heart was doing some crazy things when I read this, every word was written with so much passion and feeling it literally dance off the pages.
I fell that we got two books; the first half was sweet funny light and was spent developing the characters. Skye and Xander started with a tug and pull relationship.
"she was a mans dream, my dream, and yet I could not touch her"
They were playful even in the face of danger and adversity. something about this book had me like a overexcited puppy playing fetch I just could not get enough.
The second part of this books was a whole new adventure, enchanted forest and magic. They travel back to their home land Tyalbrook and we are transported back in time with no modern technology and horse drawn carriages. At this stage of this book I could see the growth of the characters and the love between Skye and Xander has develop. Bring one the struggles and obstacles. Each time they hurt I hurt I could feel their pain. Nothing was left out a tremendous amount of attention was paid to the detail large and small.
It does not matter if you are into fantasy or not you are going to want to read this book.
I recommend to everyone.
Now I will be stalking Michele until I have the next book in my hands. I NEED TO KNOW HOW THIS STORY ENDS.
